Russell L. Howard of Crawfordsville, age 74, died Monday evening, March 7, in Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He was born at Mellott, July 21, 1908, the son of Elton and Bessie Locke Howard. July 11, 1931, he married Mary E. McKinney, who survives.
Howard was retired from Mid States Steel after 40 years and was presently president of the Montgomery County Welfare Board. He was a member of Mellott Christian Church, Crawfordsville Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis Scottish Rite, Fraternal Order of Police, Elks Lodge, eagles Lodge and member and past president of Crawfordsville Lions Club. A former police commissioner and city councilman, he was a Republican precinct committeeman.
Also surviving are a daughter, Barbara Warbinton of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Beulah Holman and Betty Howard of Crawfordsville; a brother, Jack of Crawfordsville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) at Hunt and Son Funeral Home in Crawfordsville with Dr. James Reid officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Crawfordsville. – thanks to S
